Financial Assistance and Library ResourcesFinancial AssistanceService to UC Berkeley graduate students is a primary ISEEES function, and through a combination of intra- and extramural funding, it offers a variety of graduate student assistance, including fellowships, graduate student training grants, and grants for research-related travel. Graduate students specializing in Slavic, East European, or Eurasian fields may be eligible for a variety of other departmental and University fellowships, grants-in-aid, research assistantships, and teaching assistantships, as well as Title VI Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowships, and fellowships designated for students within BPS. Individual fellowships and grants for graduate students focussing on Hungarian, Polish, or Balkan studies are also available. Students are advised to visit the Graduate Fellowship Office, 318 Sproul Hall. Berkeley graduate students should visit our Web page on Funding Opportunities for upcoming fellowship deadlines and links to related campus Web pages. Library and Other Scholarly ResourcesDoe Library, UC Berkeley’s main library, is notable for its Slavic and East European collections, which comprise approximately 750,000 volumes (including microfilms), some two-thirds of which are in the languages of the area. It also houses approximately 10,000 serial titles, including 3,500 current subscriptions in the languages of the area, as well as prominent collections of Western and English-language Slavica. The collections are complemented by holdings in a dozen branch libraries on campus, including the 18,000 volumes held in the graduate library of the Slavic Department, the ISEEES reading room collection, and nationally recognized area-related collections in law, life sciences, physical sciences, and social sciences. For more library links, see the Library Resources section under Slavic Studies at Berkeley. Go back to: | |
