If you have not ever read a book on the history of oil, the best is probably Dan Yergin’s The Prize (which is quite huge, but unique). Also useful, if old, are Anthony Sampson’s The Seven Sisters (1976), and John M. Blair, The Control of Oil (1978). Somewhat interesting in the light of current events is Øystein Noreng, Oil and Islam: Social and Economic Issues (New York: John Wiley & Sons, 1997).
