Current Semester
Officers
The following is a list of current officers and a brief description of each position. To view past officers, go here.
Master Alchemist
The Master Alchemist is the President of the Fraternity. As the President, the MA has the final responsibility of ensuring a well-run chapter. The MA presides over all general and executive committee meetings. The MA also acts as the official representative of the Sigma Chapter. As many past Master Alchemists can attest, the best part of the job is handing it over to someone else. They will probably also admit it was one of their most rewarding experiences with the fraternity.
Vice Master Alchemist
Nima Golzy
The Vice Master Alchemist is the Vice President of the Fraternity. The VMA (with the help of the Pledge Master) is responsible for recruiting and training a pledge class. This is the most important job in the fraternity as without members, there is no chapter. The VMA must hand down our enthusiasm for the fraternity to the next generation of members. The VMA also takes on the duties of the MA if they are unable to serve.
Pledge Master / Mistress
Katie Fink
The Office of the Pledge Master was created by the Sigma Chapter to assist the Vice Master Alchemist with pledge training. The Pledge Master works as the VMA's assistant in all aspects of pledge recruitment and training. The Pledge Master has the dubious honor of receiving special attention from the pledges during Tech Talks and after initiation.
Treasurer
John Song
The treasurer is responsible for the finical health of the chapter. This involves creating and maintaining a budget, collecting dues, and reimbursing people for expenditures. The treasurer is also responsible for maintaining our ASUC funding. Reimbursement forms are available in PDF and word formats.
Masters of Ceremonies
Kevin Alexander & Emily Warren
The Master of Ceremonies is responsible for keeping the fraternity's secrets secret. The MC's biggest responsibility is planning and running initiation. The event takes months to plan and an entire day to execute. The MC is also in charge of the pinning ceremony and setting up for official chapter meetings.
Reporter
Robin Lanam
The Reporter is responsible for maintaining communications with the National Office of Alpha Chi Sigma. This usually means sending in paperwork on time.
Recorder
Andrew Chung
The Recorder is responsible for maintaining minutes of all chapter and executive committee meetings. Although the job does not require much experience, it is very important to the smooth functioning of the chapter. Having written records of elections, pledge votes, and bylaws changes is essential.
Alumni Secretary
Mike Zou
The Alumni Secretary is in charge of maintaining relations with alumni. This means maintaining an up to date contact list so that alumni will be informed about our annual alumni banquet. The Alumni Secretary also edits and publishes The Bear, the chapter's annual news letter that is sent to all Sigma Alumni.
If you are an alumni, please contact the Alumni Secretary to update your contact information or if you have any interesting information to share.
Historians
Alex Buenaflor & Marijke Van Spyk
The Historian maintains the chapter history books. The books contain pictures and written commentary of the semester's events. The Historian is also responsible for educating the pledges about fraternity history on "History Night".
Editor/Publicist
The Editor/Publicist maintains this website. They are also in charge of our email lists and printing any sort of flyers the chapter may need.
Chapter Adviser
The Chapter Adviser is the official liaison between the Sigma Chapter and the University. The Chapter Adviser has the unique opportunity to remain active with the chapter for many years, thus helping ensuring a consistency that is not possible with students that come and go every few years. The Chapter Adviser is often crucial in helping chapters weather lean times.
District Counselor
The District Counselor is not a chapter officer, but rather an officer of the National Fraternity. The DC is the "middle management" of the fraternity, providing local oversight and assistance to chapters in their district. The Northwestern District Counselor oversees collegiate chapters in Berkeley, Stockton, and Seattle and a professional chapter in San Francisco.
