Ashok Gadgil is a Senior Staff Scientist in the Environmental Energy Technology Division of Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, where he heads the Airflow and Pollutant Transport Group.  He received a bachelor’s degree in Physics from University of Bombay, two Masters in Physics from IIT Kanpur and UC Berkeley, and a Ph.D., also in Physics, from UC Berkeley.  Conducted research on solar thermal storage at CNRS in Paris after his doctorate, and founded the Divisions on Renewable Energy Engineering and Energy Efficiency in the electricity sector at TERI, New Delhi, over the period 1983-88.  Since 1988, he has been at Berkeley, except for a Visiting Professorship in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University in 2004-2005.  Apart from his active research in energy use and airflows in buildings, he also has long and active research in analysis, research, development and implementation of technologies for improved energy-efficiency and environmental performance in the developing countries, in a range of sectors.   You can see his work on building airflow and pollutant transport at http://buildingairflow.lbl.gov   His research on energy and environmental issues in the developing world is interdisciplinary and diverse, and some of it is available at his website at: http://eetd.lbl.gov/staff/gadgil/AGadgil.html
