   My name is Ange Strom-Weber and I'm a fourth year grad student in Linguistics at UC Berkeley.   Right now I live in the northside of Berkeley; I was born in NYC and have lived in Paris, London, Tokyo, Singapore, Little Compton RI and Providence.   I'm one of the few people I know who has absolutely no interest in travel, except the kind where you go to some kind of tropical paradise and stay in the hotel the entire time.

   I love being the biggest nerd possible.   I've always been baffled when a bunch of people go out on a Friday night and someone says "OK, no talking about linguistics tonight!" because what else would you ever want to talk about?   When there is no one around to talk about lingusitics, I keep myself busy with:

• Television. I'm fascinated by the constraints on narrative structure inherent to television that are completely different from books and movies.   I also like to think about the similarities and differences in narrative conventions employed by different program types (like procedurals, reality, serials, etc).
• Color terms. Not the linguistic aspects of color terms a la Berlin and Kay.   I actually just like to try to learn as many color terms as possible. I spend time staring at swatches, trying to memorize what name goes with what color.
• Fruit geneology. Topics include: "The Great Banana Sex Catastrophe" and "Why the Pomelo is the King Among Citrus."   Also, "The Blood Orange is NOT Related to the Pomegranate" and "Kumquats are Too Silly."
• Puzzles (word, logic, jigsaw) and Games (card, board, computer).

   My family is extremely important to me.   My brother Ben is a freshman at Syracuse University, studying areospace-engineering.   My brother Kai is a senior at the Wheeler School in RI (he's the one who drew the picture on the left), and my sister Hanna is a junior.   My dad lives in NYC and works for ING Americas; my mom is in Providence and is planning to go back for a PhD in anthropology.
