"Keep those cards and letters coming in!"
If you would like to join the clan, please read the pages below, note a recommended format of your line as you know it, then follow the instructions on how to join the clan email list.
1/99 I have just scanned in, corrected and edited two indexes to the names in the two sections of the Ohio Tidd book, OhioIndex1 and OhioIndex2. Please let me know if you find them useful or would like the other names. It turns out to take a lot of time to correct the OCR errors.
1/99 An overview of branches has been added, based on the descendant charts AWT-X, and the contributions of the members of the tiddclan email group.
7/98 Aaron HILL has been added to these pages. He's an OHio TIDD, descended from Sarah TIDD m. James HILL.
6/98 I found the missing AWT-A to AWT-T descendant charts! They were in my dad's basement. The names and dates match well with what I have so far from other sources. There are longer descendant branches to other MA cousins, some still living in 1930-50 when AWT did his research.
4/97 AWT's direct line monograph
3/97 Folder AWT85 contained a biographical sketch including the origin of the name TIDD.
11/96 In the table below are three new entries. the Mike TIDD line (Ebenezer TIDD 5 m. Elizabeth FORTNER), the Matthew SIMONDS line (Mary TIDD 3 m. Joseph SIMONDS), and the complete TIDD Gedcom from Dori FULK (FULLER line from Abt 1420!) . . . (Thomas FULLER m. Elizabeth TIDD 2).
Also highly recommended is Cyndi Howell's site list.
I inherited this fascination with order from my grandfather Arthur Warren TIDD, who spent much of his life tracking TIDDs. He was never able to determine how the Ohio TIDDs were related to the Woburn TIDDs (pronounced Woo'bin), my ancestors. A new annotated TIDD line monograph (line 3) has just turned up (4/97).
We have yet to study the story of James, son of John 1 TIDD, who is said to be that link. Arthur said, "There is some mystery about this son." We have published records of John 1 TIDD as a founder of the town of Woburn, and gravestones that date from the revolution. There are two John TIDDs, one who settled in Exeter, NH. Their birthdates split a generation, and they are two distinct people; John NH is an independent immigrant. A short summary of what we know about the first three John TIDDs who came to America about 1637 was compiled by Bonnie Miller 1/2000.
I have now entered AWT's indices of his correspondence. The folders run to over 132 files in one large box. I have listed them as "AWT1" through "AWT132" (through AWT71 8/96, all done 3/97). The descendant charts labeled "AWT-A" to "AWT-T" were found by me while cleaning out the basement of my father Warren H. TIDD's home in Colorado Springs, CO 6/1998.
One of these folders, AWT85, contained a biographical sketch (line 2) that was new to me (in 3/97).
David TIDD and Nancy WILSON* are 4th cousins descended from Frances TIDD. David introduced me to Bonnie SMITH*, who is descended from Elizabeth TIDD (2) b.1626 and Thomas FULLER.
John PECHIN*.
is also
descended from Elizabeth TIDD (2).
John contacted Bob in March 1995.
Bonnie MILLER of Austin, TX is another friend of David's, who appears to be connected to the TIDD line at about generation 8.
About the same time (fall 1995) Michael WOOLVERTON* contacted Bob. He is descended from Rebecca TIDD (3) b.1664 and Thomas BLODGETT. He traces this line back some 22 generations of the FISKE line starting in about 1330!

Research John TIDD 1 b.1595 in Hertfordshire, England, and other TIDD immigrants from England or wherever.
Research John TIDD b.1618 in England who came to Salem, MA indentured to Samuel GREENFIELD for passage and moved to Exeter, NH, where he was instrumental in founding that town, like his Woburn namesakes. AWT and the clan have both decided that this John is not directly related to John 1 TIDD. For one thing, his birth roughly splits the generations from John 1 to John 2 in the "other" line.
Explore the relationship, if any, between the Woburn TIDDs (pronounced Woob'n) and the Ohio TIDDs who are very well documented in the book, "A History of the TIDDs of Ohio" by Howard H. TIDD. Many of the cousins listed above are descended from the Ohio tree.
Identify each TIDD line in the United States descended from different immigrant ancestors. The Exeter, NH John, the VA TIDDs, and the Ohio line are three obvious starting places. There are records of ships' passenger lists which should be throughly researched to establish immigrants as the start of new lines in the US.
The relationship between TIDD, TEDD, TODD (if any) and some of the older spellings like TEAD, TEED or TYDD (pronounced "tith" in Welsh).
