[December 1939 by Warren] HISTORICAL AND BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH OF THE TIDD FAMILY ORIGIN: According to Harrison's "SURNAMES OF THE UNITED KINGDOM" the name Tidd is of English origin derived from (1) the Anglo-Saxon 'Tidda', more commonly 'Tida', a form of the Old English 'tid' meaning "festival season or time" and (2) Belonging to Tydd St. Giles, derived probably from the Anglo-Saxon personal name Tid(d)a with a lost local element. From LOWER's "PATRONYMICA BRITANNICA" we learn that a Magister Thomas de Tid occurs in the Hundred Rolls of Cambridgeshire. The name is therefore of local origin.
