Tributes
to
J. Desmond Clark
1916-2002
____________________
I'm sure that many of my colleagies
in journalism would join me in remembering how invariably generous
Dr. Clark was in helping us interpret the complexities of hominid
evolution; in offering us unbiased comments when we needed to perform
our strange version of peer-review, and for his always gently-worded
suggestions for improvement when we asked him if what we were about
to write was a reasonable interpretation of some scientific paper
we had trouble understanding. I often wished I had chosen his field
as my own and had had Dr. Clark as a mentor.
