Interests:Phonological theory, psycholinguistics, phonetics, computational modeling, language acquisition, African languages (esp. Semitic, Chadic & Bantu), construction grammar, language and politics

My overarching research interest is in how the limitations and capabilities of our general cognitive system shapes what languages can and do look like. I approach this interest using myriad cross-disciplinary methods including typological research, behavioral epxeriments, detailed phonetic analysis, computational modeling and research into language acquisition. There are a number of projects I've been working on that relate to this question that you can find on my research page. All papers and presentations can be found there as well including chapters of my dissertation, tentatively titled "Input Driven Opacity".

Personal
My overarching extra-linguistic goals in life is to travel to 100 countries before I die. I'm currently at 33 35, with 7 of the countries chronicled in my early attempts at blogging. You can find some pictures on my pictures page and other random tidbits on my personal page that will give you everything you really need to know about me.

Interests: playing the drums, New York City, sashimi (esp. uni, ankimo and hamachi), good scotch (or bad vodka), non-European travel destinations, baseball, Boston sports teams, reading Progressive blogs, Jewish food (esp. gehakte leber and smoked fish), exploring the universality of humankind by sharing drinks with strangers at bars around the world.
