Political Fall Out

It looks like instead of an immediate post-election explosion, there's a slow boil developing:

A lot of the country, myself included, feels pretty disenfranchised, what with Bush running about waving his supposed political capital around . I imagine he's using that as a threat to anyone who might second guess him (see: Specter, Arlen). He has complete control of a voting-bloc of 4 million born-agains that people apparently think will deliver elections. Witness the left falling all over themselves talking about getting back to dealing with "values", and trying to appeal to the evangelicals. %48 of us abhor, fear and are disheartened by the breaking down of this essential wall separating church and state.
First off, when's he going to pay back the political capital that he spent last term?
Second, again, Bush &co. have mastered the art of low expectations. Only their genius manipulation of perception has turned a 2-2 1/2% margin of victory into a mandate. It was only because we were *expecting* a razor thin margin of a few hundred thousand that several million seems like a lot by comparison.

Finally, though I don't have the exact numbers, I can't imagine evangelicals voted for Gore 4 years ago. If the Democrats had won, do you think Repubs would be saying that they need to woo educated urbanites? Please, Dems, do not consider a lurch away towards the religious right.
