The course presents an overview of the highlights of Roman civilization with particular emphasis on major literary works and how they reflect Roman culture. Many lectures will be supplemented with slides and/or video. The discussion sections will provide information and an opportunity to write on and discuss topics addressed in the lectures and the readings. A series of three films will be shown outside the regular lecture hour; these are required viewing, either at the scheduled viewing session or in the Media Center in Moffitt Library.

Examinations and quizzes may include essays, short answers, identifications, matching or other "objective" formats, and map/chronology questions.
Please note: I will make every attempt to make special accommodations for particular needs and circumstances. However, with a large class, allowing early, late, or makeup examinations is very problematic. Please plan to take each examination on the date it is scheduled. Note that the final is Group 7: Monday, May 19th, 12:30-3:30. No alternative date for the final will be offered.
