I have been training and collaborating with UC Berkeley undergraduates through the Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program (URAP).
Matt Stuckey
Matt is assisting me with genetic research on alpine population histories in the Sierra Nevada. He recently received a UC Berkeley SPUR grant to support the development of nuclear genes in our phylogeographic survey of the butterfly C. behrii.
Kevin Cook
Kevin is assisting me with population genetic work on Melanoplus sanguinipes and Melanoplus devastator. We are using mitochondrial and multiple nuclear markers to assess the population structure and species limits in the M. sanguinipes/devastator complex of California.
Joel Scheingross
Joel is conducted a senior thesis project on butterfly niche modeling and conservation mapping in the alpine Sierra Nevada. Our project focuses on past, current and future distributions of two butterflies, using museum records, field surveys and climate warming scenarios. View a pdf file of the poster Joel presented at the 2007 Ecological Society of America Meeting.
Vinay Yagnik
Vinay is assisting me with genetic research on alpine population histories in the Sierra Nevada. He recently received a UC Berkeley Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Award to continue his research over the summer.
