Welcome!
The Social Welfare Alumni Association is a self-supporting,
board-directed organization dedicated to the advancement of
the School, its alumni, and its undergraduate and graduate
students. Although we live in all parts of the world, we are
linked by our years at Berkeley, our pride in the university
and the School, and our desire to see our graduates assume
leadership roles in the social work profession.
Your
annual membership dues make a difference. With your help SWAA:
- Awards
annual scholarships to deserving students based, in part,
on financial need. The success of our annual membership
drive determines the size and number of scholarships available.
- Brings
alumni and agency representatives to campus to advise students
about career opportunities and to participate in seminars,
reunions, job fairs and other special events.
- Recognizes
at Commencement exercises each year new graduates who have
shown exemplary performance in their research and field
work classes.
- Recognizes
the accomplishments of distinguished MSW graduates and School
of Social Welfare faculty with each year's Alumni of the
Year and Teacher of the Year Awards.
How
Do You Benefit?
As
a member of SWAA, you will receive:
- Social
Welfare at Berkeley and Insight, the School's alumni magazines,
with articles about the School; the scholarly and professional
achievements of faculty, students and graduates; and topical
issues in social work policy and practice.
- The
opportunity to attend seminars on current research and practice,
offered during the academic year as part of the Monday afternoon
colloquia series at Haviland Hall.
- An
invitation to the Annual Alumni Dinner, held each May, to
renew acquaintances, visit with faculty, and fellow graduates,
and honor SWAA's Alumni of the Year and Teacher of the Year.
- A
copy of the Alumni Directory of the School of Social Welfare,
listing dues-paying members and their addresses and professional
interests -- to assist members and students in developing
and maintaining a professional social work network.
- The
satisfaction of knowing that your SWAA annual membership
dues are furthering educational and professional opportunities
for today's social work students and tomorrow's practitioners.
