Mentoring helps undergraduate students find their
way around their departments, talk to experienced graduate students and postdocs who share their degree, and get in touch with other undergraduates in their classes.
Here's how it works:
Undergraduates majoring (or considering majoring) in a field in the physical sciences can join a mentoring group of about 4 or 5 of their peers, which is informally led by two women graduate students or postdocs.
Groups meet several times throughout the semester to take a lab tour, visit a science museum, meet at a cafe to talk, or do anything else the group would find useful.
The groups are designed to span the range of physical science academic career stages, from undergraduate freshmen through postdocs. For undergraduates, this is your chance to get advice on classes, research, graduate school, etc., and to pass on some of your knowledge. For graduate students and postdocs, this is your chance to get teaching advice and experience mentoring students.
If you're interested in joining a mentoring group, fill out this sign-up sheet, and someone will contact you shortly.
