CLAS is committed to making Latin American content available to educators. To meet this goal, we have partnered with the Interactive University project* to create web sites that focus on topics in the California curriculum. The sites provide background information as well as links to curriculum materials, photographs and primary sources.

Ten Years After NAFTA: How Has Globalization Affected Mexico brings together workshop materials, photos and articles that examine the larger process of globalization through the specific example of NAFTA.

Heading South, Looking North includes resources on Chile and human rights as well as an excerpt from Ariel Dorfman’s recent book of the same name.

Migrations: A Collection of Views on Mexican Immigration
to the United States gives a summary of the history of migration between Mexico and the United States. Links are also provided to other web sites that represent a variety of opinions on the immigration issue.

The Interactive University Project (IU)
UC Berkeley’s Interactive University Project (IU) aims to develop Internet-based educational programs and resources to support K-12 teachers and to create collaborative partnerships between Berkeley and public schools. The goal of CLAS’ IU project is to support Latin Americanist curricula in K-12 classrooms by expanding access to CLAS and Berkeley resources and jointly developing digital learning materials

RESOURCE LIBRARIES

ORIAS, located at 2223 Fulton Street Room 338, has a resource library that offers materials and curriculum to teachers for a three-week loan.

The International House, on the UC Berkeley campus at the corner of Piedmont Avenue and Bancroft Way, has a resource library that includes books, videos and CD’s that may be checked out for a two-week period. For more information call (510) 642-9460.

The Stone Center for Latin American Studies at Tulane University has a lending library of materials on Latin American topics that is available to teachers nation-wide. The items in their collection are loaned free of charge. The only cost to the borrower is the price of return shipping.
